Furries of Fresno State was started in April of 2022 as a community discord to meet other furs attending the university. At the time, the only way for furries in the Fresno area to meet each other was a Telegram chat that you needed an invitation for! While the Fresno Furries chat is fantastic, it was clear we needed a dedicated server for furries attending Fresno State. For the first year or so, we were exactly that! While there were occasional meetups (such as when the Bad Guys movie was released), we were primarily just a community discord server.
After a year and a half of infrequent meetups, we decided to take the leap and register as a club here at Fresno State! On September 13, 2023, we became an ASI-recognized club, with our original officers being Rem, Andy, Tay, and Bravo. Because of this, we have been able to host our meetings in the RSU weekly!
We hope to continue this journey while we grow as a club! Since we are still new, we are trying to grow our membership because so many people don't know that we exist. We have been able to do great things in our first year, and we are looking forward to seeing what amazing events we can put on with even more people!
Oxford Dictionary defines a Furry as "an enthusiast for animal characters with human characteristics, in particular a person who dresses up in costume as such a character or uses one as an avatar online." To put it simply, furries are a fandom (fan group) of people who enjoy anthropomorphic art! While different people participate in the fandom in different ways, most members create and commission art of their original [anthropromorphic] characters.
Recently, furries have become a "culture war" issue, leading to a ton of misinformation. You have to remember that the Furry Fandom is just that: a Fandom. It's a large group of people with a common hobby. It's gonna behave like any other large group of people! If you want a detailed article on what furries and fursonas are, as well as a bunch of other questions that some people ask I would check out this article from The Conversation.
Furries of Fresno State wouldn't be possible without club officers doing the dirty work! Elections are held once every school year, and are open to all student members.

Where are you most active?
If you are looking for where most members converse, our Discord is where you can find that! We don't have a telegram. If you are looking for that, we recommend you check out Fresno Furries, because they are primarily a Telegram chat. As for our social media accounts, our Instagram is usually the most up to date.
I am not a Fresno State student, but will be in the future. Can I join?
It depends! If you are currently enrolled at a local community college and plan on transferring to Fresno State, you are more than welcome to join the discord. However, we will not accept any high school students until after they have graduated and finished Dog Days: New Student Orientation.
Do I need a fursuit to join?
No. The majority of our members do not own one (including the president)!
How many members do you have?
We have around 20 active members [an active member being a member who attended 4 meetings in a semester], and quite a lot of furries that have popped in for just a meeting or two.
Who drew your logo?
Andy, our original Vice President, drew our logo! We made it through a community design process early in the stages of becoming a club.
